It's been a while...

With Summer sending out the siren call of heat and sprinklers calling my name, I've neglected my blog.   The warmth of our Summer's here in Eastern Washington is legendary and it hasn't disappointed us this year.  With a garden overgrowing with abundance and the hose that is almost constantly on to keep our lawn from incinerating, it's been busy and fun!  It's much easier to read when it's nasty and cold outside.    The idea that summer is for reading is lost on me, I must admit. Unless I'm on vacation, which won't happen this year till September, Summer is for splashing, harvesting, hoeing weeds and chasing wet children.  But I do have some news, some news I'll reveal...later.  So keep posted. It's a good one.  I was shocked myself, really.  In the mean time, take a break, lounge in the kiddie pool, get a squirt gun and see if you can get the spurts of water to evaporate before they hit the ground.  That's what I'll be doing.  (After I chase my kids and help them make mud-pies.)

SAVAGE WINTER, The Season's of Paleo Series


So, I've been waiting for this release.  It's no secret how much I love Rachel Van Dyken's books and I had the totally delicious treat of getting an ARC of this book that just came out today.  You're going to want to buy it, pronto.  If you're not into the Dystopian genre, don't be afraid of this book. It's about love and loyalty, in an extreme way.  What's the name of the book?  Ready?  "Savage Winter."  Yeah, I know, amazingly cool name.  It's going to be the first book in the new series "Season's of Paleo."  Below are the buy links and my review I've posted on Amazon!

Wow.  So, already being a huge fan of Rachel Van Dyken's work in both contemporary and Regency Romance, I couldn't pick up Savage Winter fast enough!  W O W.  It's a shorter book, but you feel utterly satisfied at the end because first, you know there will be more in the series, and two, the progression is flawless.  There's no jumping through scenes quickly, no hurried emotional scenes, everything is so natural and flowing giving light to how talented Ms Van Dyken is at spinning a tale.

In the opening pages my heart pounded as I felt the loss, fear and desperation surrounding Kyle as her world is stripped from her, leaving her cold in the absence of love.  Her inner strength is astounding and helps you really admire her while also sympathizing with her loss.  The book is about loyalty and love.

Aiden is astounding.  I loved him from the start.  Not only his desire to protect the princess, but all his efforts to heal her heart's wounds as well.  Ms Van Dyken does a wonderful job of getting inside a guy's head.

Basically, I love the story and I will be counting down till the next book in the "Season's of Paleo" series.

Compromising Kessen

Today is a day for me to celebrate.  This is a book I've had the delight to read before it released and it's one of my all time favorites.  I'm a huge fan of the "Regency" era romances, but what I love about this book is that it's contemporary romance with all the regency flair and glam.  Kessen is a heroine with a confident attitude that has hilarious sense of humor an self awareness.  Christian is the typical British, stuffy with dry sarcasm, until he meets Kessen and she turns his world upside down.  Here's the blurb...

The last thing career-driven Kessen Newberry wants is to leave her home in Colorado to spend a Season in London, far away from her job, her friends and the memories of her mother. Sacred Ring

Leah Sanders is one of the new authors I'm keeping my eye on.   Her debut novel co-written by Rachel Van Dyken entitled, "The Parting Gift" hit amazon during Christmas and she hooked me with her attention to detail.  In her first solo novel, "Sacred Ring" I was again impressed with the attention to detail within the plot, character development and movement within the story.  While this book is considered "YA lit," I really enjoyed it and found myself engaged in the story.  Here's my review on Amazon:

The Sacred Ring starts out with an opening prologue that immediately grips you and leaves your mind swirling. As the book progresses you are introduced to three great characters who have adversities to overcome which are very relatable for young adults today. Add in a lot of adventure, a generous dose of mystery and some cute age appropriate romantic interest and you have a great read for all ages. Ms. Sanders did a fantastic job spinning a tale that is full of life.

So, I read this over the weekend!  The cover art alone had me interested, plus, I'm already a huge fan of Patricia.  Set in Greece, the story  unfolds quickly and you find yourself picking up the clues as you try to solve the mystery.  I won't give too much away, but I'll post my review to give you a little taste of the flavor of this great new release:
